about
I started writing in the street with the intention of conveying the anxiety of allowing yourself to be fully exposed and letting the world see who you truly are. In those early years of transition, I felt fully aware that I was existing in a world that didn’t want me in it, so you build walls and defences as a way to cope,” vocalist Emmy Hour says of the track.
“You tell yourself things to get you through, to survive. By the time I’d finished writing it, I felt like it had taken on a more positive vibe; a proudness to be visible, which is something I still rely on day to day. We wanted the video to reflect that and to bear certain confidence and strength, and we feel like Wilson has achieved that wonderfully in the video!”
lyrics
Out in the street
In the middle of town
You can’t feel your feet
But they’re steady on the ground
Your sweat hits the earth
Stalked by the bird
You’re out in the street
Filling up with hurt
And all you know
Is what you've done, you've done it good
And all you know
Is you built your walls, and you built them good
You could use some rest
Even at your best
And your shoulders they tense
As you turn your head
And you're looking back
On what you have built
And you're looking back, it’s not hurting still
And all you know
Is what you've done, you've done it good
Oh, and all you know
Is you kept your word and you kept it good
Watch them come
Watch them go
See them getting high, then getting low
Watch them come running
Watch them go
And you’re the stranger in the street
